A global viral oceanography database (gVOD)

Abstract. Virioplankton are a key component of the marine biosphere in maintaining diversity microorganisms and stabilizing ecosystems. They also contribute greatly to nutrient cycles/cycling by releasing organic matter after lysis hosts. In this study, we constructed first global viral oceanography database (gVOD) collecting 10 931 abundance (VA) data 727 production (VP) data, along with host relevant oceanographic parameters when available. Most VA were obtained North Atlantic (32 %) Pacific (29 oceans, while southeast Indian oceans quite undersampled. The ocean was 1.17(±3.31)×107 particles mL−1. lytic lysogenic VP 9.87(±24.16)×105 2.53(±8.64)×105 particlesmL-1h-1, respectively. Average coastal higher than that surface open (3.61(±6.30)×107 versus 0.73(±1.24)×107 mL−1), average close. Vertically, VA, deceased from deep about 1 order magnitude. total number viruses estimated bin-averaging random forest method 1.56×1030 1.49×1030 particles, leading an estimate biomass at 35.9 34.4 Tg C, We expect gVOD will be fundamental very useful for laboratory, field modeling studies ecology biogeochemistry. full (Xie et al., 2020) is stored PANGAEA (https://doi.org/10.1594/PANGAEA.915758).
